Barcelona and beyond

The cultural attractions of Barcelona are renowned and the Catalan capital is a rich and vibrant destination. The architecture of Antoni Gaudi is synonymous with Barcelona’s skyline but the city also offers a wealth of art nouveau or ‘modernisme’ buildings by many of Gaudi’s contemporaries.

The cities of Terrassa and Reus (easily accessible from Barcelona as a day trip or a longer stay) celebrate their own substantial ‘modernisme’ heritage – but without the crowds.

A Cultural Perspectives tour to one or more Catalonian destinations includes an extensive programme of selected visits such as:

  • An appreciation of the seven Gaudi buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage list, including Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Park Güell , Casa Vicens and the spectacular La Sagrada Familia
  • Exploring Barcelona’s l’Eixample neighbourhood with ‘modernisme’ buildings at every turn
  • Lluis Domenech i Montaner’s Palau de la Música Catalana in the heart of Barcelona’s El Born barrio where regular concerts still take place
  • Terrassa’s impressive Technical and Science Museum of Catalonia, housed in a former textile factory
  • Masia Freixa – a unique Gaudi-inspired building by Lluis Muncunill i Parellada, now home to Terrassa’s council and tourist offices
  • In Reus, Casa Navàs and the Pere Mata Institute – both  landmark buildings by Domenech i Montaner
